Death in the Pool Hall

  • 1881, December 29 - Marshal Crawley Dake telegraphs the appointment of Wyatt Earp as Deputy United States Marshal.
  • 1882, January 3 - Election day and Clum is not on the ticket. Dave Neagle, who replaces Virgil Earp on the ticket, is elected as City Marshal.
  • 1882, January 17 - Parsons writes in his diary of a near dust up between Ringo and Doc Holliday.
  • 1882, January 23 - Parsons is pulled out of bed to join the Earps in a posse to arrest Johny Ringo. When they return, after a futile chase, Ringo is enjoying the hospitality of Sheriff Behan. He has surrendered to the sheriff and is in jail, awaiting trial.
  • 1882, February 9 - Ike Clanton files for the second time a murder charge against the Earps, this time with magistrate JB Smith in Contention City.
  • 1882, February 14 - Earps go to Contention to be tried for the murder of Billy Clanton. It caused quite a fuss in town on both sides of the fence.
  • 1882, February 15 - Covering all bases; Ike files his third murder charge against the Earps, this time with Judge Lucas in Tombstone.
  • 1882, March 18 - Morgan and Wyatt attend an entertainment at the Schieffelin Hall. Afterwards they head to Campbell and Hatch's Saloon for billiards. Two shots rip through the window of the rear door. One smashes into the wall above Wyatt's head, the other penetrates Morgan through the small of his back, shattering his spine. It passes right through his body and lodges in the thigh of George Berry. Parsons wrote in his diary that he was sure that one of the assassins was Frank Stilwell.
  • 1882, March 19 - Morgan Earp lay in state in the Cosmopolitan Hotel, blanketing in flowers, while the bells of Tombstone ring out.
